The theme alone would have me waiting until the kids are older to bring this one out, but the longish rule book seals the deal. "Evidence" and "piecing together the puzzle" are thematically thin and seem forced, only really amount to "victory points," and worse, don't seem to relate to who may have actually committed the murder being investigated. The one with the most evidence against him/her is obviously the guilty one, and all the others are totally innocent, right? This cuts things a bit too sharply in a setting that would be much better suited to nuance. Unfortunately, such nuances would make for an even more complicated game. Likewise, the characters having to deal with their own personality flaws is a thematic layer younger kids are not likely to be able to simultaneously process while playing the game. Emotional involvement could lead to hurt feelings and kids being turned off to gaming. |
